Defending champions Royal Wahingdoh Football Club (FC), Shillong thrashed Nagaland Police 6-0 to storm into the semi finals of the 61st Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Bordoloi Trophy football tournament on Friday.
In the last quarterfinal at Nehru stadium, Royal Wahingdoh dominated the proceedings right from the referees whistle and hardly allowed the Nagaland Police players to make inroads into their territory.
Bekay Bawar’s pass to Seityasen Singh in the 15th minute of play saw the latter trudging into the box but failing to take a shot as a Nagaland Police defender cleared the ball. Despite failing on a few occasions, the Shillong brigade finally found their target in the 21st minute.
Lalmangaihsanga from the left flank provided a gem of a pass in the 21st minute which was finely guided into the net by unmarked Seityasen Singh.
Royal Wahingdoh missed the easiest of opportunity as Lalnunpuia missed a sitter from just inches away from the Nagaland Police custodian Sewti Meren Ao in the 32nd minute. Lalmangaihsanga after making his way into the right flank of the box provided Lalnunpuia with an absolute opportunity but his shot failed to find the target.
Seityasen Singh from the right flank gave Lalnunpuia another fine chance to further increase the sides lead in the 37th minute but his shot was well saved by custodian Sewti Meren Ao. Another chance went in vain as Malsawmtluanga’s free kick was well headed by Lalchawnkima but the Nagaland custodian did enough to stop the attempt while the defender cleared the ball to safety in the 41st minute.
With the second half kicking off, Nagaland Police further struggled to keep up with the Royal Wahingdoh’s pace. The Shillong side didn’t have a test before heading into the semi finals as they played with ease.
The corner in the 55th minute saw Royal Wahingdoh doubling their lead with Lalnunpuia making no mistake in heading the ball into the net. Jackychand Singh who took the corner kick ensured that his shot find the man with the ball curling in the air to find Lalnunpuia. Lalnunpuia went on to find his second goal in the 64th minute of play.
Vizoro of Nagaland Police took a free kick in the 68th minute from around 25 yards but his shot only manage to hit the Wahingdoh defenders wall, going in vain.
Reagan Singh scored a fine goal from a distance of around 20 yards in the 70th minute of play. On having received a pass from Seityasen Singh he made his way and did well enough to go for the target from the distance.
Substitute Bickyson Kharkongor scored the fifth goal for the Shillong side in 85th minute after Reagan Singh from the left flank set the ball rolling into Bickyson Kharkongor’s feet who made no mistake in finding the back of the net.
The sixth goal was a result of Nagaland Police’s Lipok Sashi Ao’s foul against Zosangkima inside the box. Foreign recruit Bekay Bawar who took the spot kick found the cross bar but the rebound was well placed by him into the net this time in the 87th minute.
